Top Five – My Favorite Halloween Movies

Here’s my favorite films (at least right now) to watch on Halloween night.

  • The Phantom of the Opera (1925) – Lon Chaney silent film I love to watch any time of year, especially fun on Halloween!
  • The Lost Boys (1987) – This film about vampires is not scary, but IS loads of campy fun and stars the Two Coreys.
  • Dead of Night (1945) – Spooky ghost stories as told by a group of strangers who have gathered at a country house. Watch in the dark.
  • The Shining (1980) – Psychological horror that can really be very scary. A good one for Halloween.
  • Meet Me in St. Louis (1944) – Good as a family film – this Judy Garland musical is not really a Halloween movie, but it DOES feature my favorite trick-or-treating scene ever put on film with a tiny costumed Margaret O’Brien and her little sack of flour, out to pull her first Halloween night trick on a neighbor so she can become “the most horrible”. Love it!
