Sausage Pizza from Casa Bianca in Eagle Rock, California

Oh yes! The delicious, famous Sausage “Pizza Pie” – I want a slice right now!

One of our favorite restaurants to go to these days is Casa Bianca Pizza, a local restaurant for us that we can pop over to quickly when a craving for pizza is calling! Casa Bianca is an old-time pizza parlor with a comfortable retro feel and neat “Pizza Pie” signage out front. This restaurant has been operating in Eagle Rock since 1955 and is always lively with local families, students, senior citizens (especially when you arrive early, like we usually do), and even some hipsters and the occasional celebrity.

Parking is easy on the side street, which is usually where we find a spot. Casa Bianca is often very crowded with long waits for a table, but we often go there early (before 5:30 pm) and normally don’t have to wait. The restaurant looks like an old school pizza joint, with red-checkered tablecloths, Tiffany-style hanging lamps, ceiling fans, Italian beer ads on the walls and comfortable booths. Photos of the restaurant’s celebrity patrons cover the walls of the front waiting area.

We usually start off with a carafe of Red Wine (yum yum – and hey, the big size Liter carafe is only a few dollars more than the half carafe, so totally worth it!). Sometimes we get the regular Dinner Salad with Italian dressing, but I love, love, love the Antipasto Salad here, especially if I’m feeling extra hungry – it is loaded with cheeses, meats, and goodies and they actually have a size especially for two (called “half of a small” which serves two salad lovers). They also start you off with a basket of free bread and butter, the bread tastes fresh-baked and served warm from the oven.

The “Pizza Pie” aka Pizza is the thing to get here – the Sausage Pizza is great and that is what we order most often – it comes with a cracker-thin crust that really tastes good with the other flavors. The medium is a good size for two, with leftovers for another meal (sometimes we even get the large size, with even more to take home for us!). They cut the bigger pizzas with a funky crazy-quilt cut which I think is totally groovy (different sized slices for varying appetites!) – you can ask for the traditional cut, if you prefer that. Recently we decided to give the Hawaiian Pizza a try (we used to order this years ago but hadn’t in recent years) – and oh boy, yum, yum, a close second to the mighty Sausage Pizza. For dessert, I really love the excellent Tiramisu they have here – a real tasty treat.

Service by a staff of young waitresses is friendly and efficient. A few things to note: be sure to bring cash with you as Casa Bianca is “cash only”. This restaurant stays open late (yay!), and they are closed on Sundays and Mondays.
